Traditional Banana Bread


  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt


  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F. Butter a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream the sugar and butter in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the eggs to the sugar mixture, one at a time. Beat well after adding each egg.
  4. In a small bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. Add the milk and cinnamon to the banana mash.
  5. In another medium-sized bowl, add the flour, baking powder, soda and salt and mix together well.
  6. Add the banana mixture to the butter mixture. Stir until combined.
  7. Add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture and stir until well combined.
  8. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and bake for 1 hour.
  9. Bread should be done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool on a rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
