Cosori Air Fryer Recall: What We Know

Posted on February 28, 2023

The air fryers were sold nationwide at several large retailers.

In today’s TikTok era, air fryers can be used to make just about anything. From air fryer grapes to poached eggs to even air fryer ravioli or air fryer salmon, the air fryer recipe possibilities are truly endless. It’s no wonder it’s a top kitchen appliance.

But when it comes to one brand of air fryer, however, consumers will need to hold off on using it.

This is because, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, around 2 million air fryers are being recalled due to some serious fire safety hazards. So before you get back to air frying, here’s what you need to know.

What Air Fryers Are Being Recalled?

Kitchen appliance company Cosori issued a voluntary recall of some of its specific air fryer models. Some Cosori “air fryers can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards” due to a wire connection within the air fryers.

There were 205 reports of the air fryers “catching fire, burning, melting, overheating and smoking.” Fortunately, no serious injuries were sustained. However, 10 minor or superficial burn injuries were reported, along with 23 reports of minor property damage.

Following an investigation, Cosori described the issue with the air fryers. “We determined that in extremely rare circumstances, the closed-end crimp connectors within the recalled air fryers—which are responsible for establishing electrical connections between certain wires—can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards,” Cosori announced in an official statement.

How Do I Know If I Have An Affected Air Fryer?

There are some key tells to know if you have any of the affected Cosori air fryers.

First, the affected 3.7 and 5.8-quart air fryers were sold from June 2018 through December 2022 between $70 and $130 in five distinct colors—black, gray, white, blue and red—at some of the largest nationwide retailers. Specifically, these retailers include in-person purchases at Best Buy, Target and Home Depot, as well as online purchases made through Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Cosori, eBay, Home Goods, Kohls, Lowes, Macy’s, QVC, Staples,  Walmart and Wayfair.

Lastly, checking your air fryer’s model number is key to identifying a recalled air fryer.

What Are the Affected Model Numbers?

The air fryer’s model number, found on the bottom of the air fryer, should be checked if a customer suspects they may have an affected product.

These are the model numbers consumers should be on the lookout for:

  • CP158-AF
  • CP158-AF-R19
  • CP158-AF-RXW
  • CP158-AF-RXR
  • CAF-P581-BUSR

It’s important to note that any of the affected air fryers will have a Cosori logo on the front of the appliance, as well.

What Should I Do Next?

If you have an affected air fryer, CPSC advises discontinuing its use immediately. Then, consumers can contact Cosori by using a website set up for the affected air fryers in order to receive a free air fryer replacement. Customers will need to provide photographic proof and contact information to receive the replacement air fryer.
